About Me

Hello! Thank you for visiting my website and taking a chance to get to know me. I'm Yumeka, I'm an art therapist and a psychotherapist. I received my diploma in Art Therapy from Toronto Art Therapy Institute and registered with the Canadian Art Therapy Association and the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (RP, #11030).

I moved a lot since adolescence and lived in places such as India, the United States, Thailand, and Canada while my family resides in Japan. As adventurous and fun as my journey was, it was also filled with the loneliness and struggles of being far away from my family. The concept of mental health was not taught to me growing up and one thing that helped me during my dark time was creating art. Focusing on the act of creating gave me relaxation and quiet time to process and express any emotion. It was only later that I discovered the practice of art therapy and that is when I decided to pursue this career. I wanted to help others like me who are not familiar with the concept of mental health through art or simply talking.

Populations of expertise: BIPOC (international students, immigrants, and 2nd generation immigrants, Indigenous), elders, adolescents, and young adults.
Previous work placements: Anderson Therapy Services, Parkland on Eglinton West (Long-term care home), Flemingdon Health Centre, University of Toronto Mississauga, Canadian Mental Health Association, and Delton Glebe Counseling Centre.
I am currently virtually seeing clients who reside in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.
